Module 3!

We began this module once again discussing ISTE Student Standards.  Of the eight standards, this specific module focused on standards six and seven, creative communicator and global collaborator. According to ISTE Standards, creative communication is defined as “ students communicating clearly and expressing themselves creatively for a variety of purposes using the platforms, tools, styles, formats and digital media appropriate to their goals.” Creative communication can be achieved with a variety of different practices. Creative communication is a skill that is extremely useful to students in college or the workforce. Although creative communication can be achieved without technology, it still has its limits. Say for example a student is out of town but needs to work on a project with a classmate, with technology the students can use the co editor option on Google Docs to complete the project all while physically not being together. Digital storytelling redefines the writing process in a way that fosters collaboration among students and their peers, Digital storytelling is simply when you use technology to tell stories. There are infinite ways to integrate technology and communication and I am excited to discover ways that weren’t discussed in the readings.

Another important aspect of the lesson was collaboration. Collaboration is also enhanced with the use of technology. Technology makes it easy to connect with others easily as well as effectively. Before using an app or a website in class, the educator should carefully evaluate it and make sure that it can be used effectively and safely. Students should use the app appropriately and also have a clear understanding of expectations when using the app . Collaborative learning prepares the students for their future in the workforce and life, giving them skills of active listening, negotiation, communication, empathy, and taking turns etc. Global collaboration was the last important aspect of the lesson. Global collaboration gives students the opportunity to connect with others in a meaningful way regardless of geographical location. This prepares students for the interconnect world of the future. Students are able to see beyond their culture with the resources we have at our fingertips.
